Across the beach is a great little vet clinic for your pets to catch the wave to a healthy life…Surf Paws Animal Hospital.
Surf Paws Animal Hospital is located in the Hawaii Kai area of Oahu, right across the road from the beach and directly across the street from the Hawaii Kai Dog Park. This hidden little gem has just what you are looking for and more.
Surf Paws Animal Hospital offers standard wellness exams to include getting your pets up-to-date with their required immunizations, but also offer holistic services such as veterinary acupuncture and laser therapy.
*Side Note: I’ll get more in depth regarding the laser therapy offered in a later post, but for this blog I will focus on the clinic.
In addition to standard wellness services, they also offer blood work and disease screening with their “in-house” lab. The lab also affords them to do tests to check out kidneys, liver, pancreas, platelet count, heartworm disease. Giardia, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Parvovirus, Fecal parasite exams, Feline Leukemia and FIV.
One cool feature to their services is Stem Cell Therapy which began back in June 2012 and they have since preformed over 55 cases.
Stem Cell Therapy is used by isolating stem cells from the animals own fat tissue, waking them up and re-injecting them back into the damaged areas.
Surf Paws Animal Hospital also offers dental care, surgeries, radiology and ultrasound, and health certificates (for pets that are traveling off island).
Surf Paws Animal Hospital is a small clinic, so it’s best not to bring too many people with you for your pet’s visit as space inside the clinic waiting room and exam rooms is pretty tight and limited.
I took my pup to Surf Paws Animal Hospital to be examined and see if acupuncture or cold laser treatment would be best for him. He suffers from a compressed disc in his lower back…spoiler alert the cold laser treatment is what he ended up getting.
I never once felt rushed by any of the staff members or the veterinarian (Dr Cristina Miliaresis). The whole staff were extremely nice and helpful and were more than willing to answer any and all questions I had too. You can tell they actually like what they are doing (you’d be surprised how many times I have come across some staff at vet clinics who were just going through the motions and really didn’t seem to like their job).
Parking can be pretty tough seeing as the town center is pretty big and there are A LOT of businesses and shops around sharing the space, so I would HIGHLY suggest trying to go with some extra time before your pet’s appointment to find a parking spot.
So if you’re looking for a new vet for your pet or interested in some of the special services they offer, then be sure to catch the pet wellness wave and check out Surf Paws Animal Hospital!
